EVS, a leader in live video production technology for the broadcast and new media industry, has announced a major agreement with Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR), one of Germany’s key public television networks within the ARD group. 

As part of this agreement, EVS will deliver its MediaCeption^® content management solution to streamline and enhance news production workflows for tagesschau, Germany’s most-watched news program, produced by ARD-aktuell alongside the news magazine tagesthemen, the 24/7 news channel tagesschau24, the homepage tagesschau.de and numerous social-media video-formats. 

With ARD-aktuell’s existing legacy news production system reaching the end of its lifecycle, installation of the robust and unified solution by EVS is already underway and is scheduled to go on air during 2026. 

With the VIA Media Asset Management Platform (VIA MAP) at its core, MediaCeption will provide tagesschau with a complete end-to-end news production environment for managing and editing live and near-live news content. The solution also introduces AI-driven workflows that will further modernize tagesschau’s newsroom operations. 

Certified integrations with leading technology partners, including OpenMedia NRCS, and Viz Mosart Automation, ensure a cohesive workflow, connecting the cross media tagesschau newsroom with industry-standard tools for maximum efficiency.   

Additionally, XS-VIA servers will operate alongside VIA MAP for robust ingest and playout operations. Finally, to cover the complete operation, EVS will also provide nearline storage based on XStore, and enhanced secure disaster recovery workflows with IPDirector, LSM-VIA and XNet-VIA. 

The resulting solution will empower NDR with faster content turnaround, reliable and stress-free operations, complete editing capabilities, and seamless collaboration across teams. VIA MAP’s web-based interface, flexible deployment options, and scalable architecture, ensure teams are well-equipped to handle the demands of live news production, including high-pressure situations such as breaking news coverage.

Under this agreement, Finepoint has contracted EVS to deliver 25 XT-VIA® live production servers, further strengthening its commitment to offering cutting-edge technology to its customers worldwide.

With this investment, Finepoint Broadcast – a leading dry-hire service provider to the global broadcasting market – is replacing the last of its legacy XT3® servers and standardizing its fleet on EVS’s flagship XT-VIA platform. 

The XT-VIA server is a cornerstone of EVS’s LiveCeption® solution, offering unmatched speed, reliability, and scalability for live productions. It seamlessly integrates with the latest LSM-VIA® replay system and value-added tools like XtraMotion®, which uses generative AI to deliver advanced visual effects such as super slow-motion replays from any camera, cinematic shallow depth-of-field, and the elimination of motion blur. The EVS servers also deliver increased processing power and channel density, enabling more flexible super-motion setups and UHD productions. In addition, hybrid SDI/IP connectivity ensures smooth deployment in any environment, with full compliance to SMPTE 2110 standards for interoperability.

The feature is integrated into the LiveCeption® solution family and controlled directly from the LSM-VIA for an intuitive, user-friendly experience. Replay operators can zoom into a camera feed using simple touch gestures on a touchscreen interface, capturing every crucial detail of an action effortlessly, and with precision.

To further streamline live production workflows, operators also have the option to define pre-set regions of interest, enabling instant zoom-ins on key areas of the action with just a single tap. Additionally, keyframes can be added within a zoom sequence, keeping the focus locked on shifting focal points and ensuring critical moments remain in clear view.

Designed for real-time operation, Zoom maintains high-image quality by cropping a 4K input to deliver a sharp 1080p output, seamlessly integrating into any replay sequence. It is fully compatible with UHD cameras, including super motion cameras with up to 4 phases.  It also supports both SDI and SMPTE ST-2110 video standards, making it adaptable to various production environments. Clips can be stored with keyframes as metadata, allowing for effortless reuse and adjustments in future edits, or easily exported to external systems.
